• The Trump couple has expressed conflicting views regarding Bitcoin, and cryptocurrencies in general.
  • Melania Trump has praised BTC and launched her own NFTs, while Trump remains a firm believer of cryptocurrencies being “a very dangerous thing.”

Among the U.S. Presidents, Donald J Trump has been the most vocal against cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin (BTC). His opinions have not come without opposition from ardent crypto supporters, who see digital assets as a sort of path to financial freedom. Interestingly, recent developments have placed his wife, Melania Trump, in the category of crypto enthusiasts, against her husband’s long-held stance on the matter.

Mid-December, Melania launched her non-fungible token (NFT) platform on the Solana blockchain. Dubbed “Melania’s Vision,” the NFTs were minted through a partnership between Melania and French artist Marc-Antoine Coulon. Melania bills them as a blend of two of her passions: art and the will to help others.

And just today, Melania wished Bitcoin a happy 13th anniversary alongside other notable Bitcoin enthusiasts, such as ex Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, and MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor. She also noted the fact that the crypto asset’s market cap has surpassed a $1 trillion market cap.

It is widely reported that Bitcoin’s market cap exceeds $1 Trillion. Today marks the 13th anniversary of the Bitcoin Genesis Block.  Happy Anniversary,

Trump and Melania controversial Bitcoin and crypto views

Nonetheless, most of the commentaries questioned her interest, noting her husband’s unyielding opposition to Bitcoin. Two of them read:

Ok, this is getting weird with Melania…

Doesn’t Donald hate Bitcoin?

Part of the crypto community has praised Melania’s crypto and NFT interest. However, some political operatives see this as purely a ploy in getting her husband back to the White House. Trump has already confirmed his interest in vying for the American presidency come 2024. Additionally, Melania’s NFT endeavor was her first public initiative since leaving the White House. A Grayscale survey in December revealed that 26 percent of the US adult population owns Bitcoin – possibly the group former first lady is attempting to capture.

Making matters less clear, is Trump’s compliments of his wife’s NFT venture:

She’s going to do great … She has a great imagination. And people love our former first lady, I can tell you that. They do, they love her.

At present, it is not quite clear how things will pan out seeing as the couple has contrasting views and plans for crypto. Among Trump’s anti-crypto comments are:

Bitcoin, it just seems like a scam. I don’t like it because it’s another currency competing against the dollar.

[Cryptocurrencies] are potentially a disaster waiting to happen.

…there could be an explosion someday, the kind of which we’ve never seen.  It’ll make the big tech explosion look like baby stuff.

I think Crypto is a very dangerous thing.
