EVENT INDUSTRY NEWS

Facebook curated events [from TechCrunch]

event news facebook events list
Last week Facebook revealed they were launching a human-curated featured events list, once again showing us that targeting the events industry is high on their list. 10 U.S. cities will see the option for ‘Featured Events’ in a carousel within their list of upcoming events. Facebook’s curators will peruse each city’s top art, entertainment, family, festival, fitness, food & drink, learning, community, music and sports events and select a few with the capacity to accept some extra foot traffic. This is no doubt an experiment for Facebook, and depending on what results they see, will depend on this going worldwide, so keep an eye out for any updates!

With algorithms ever changing, this update sounds great for Facebook users, how will this effect news outlets, marketers and advertisers? Whilst it is still unclear just how much non-family and friends content will be seen, or in this case not seen, it is clear that a large amount of traffic that companies and associations are used to seeing from Facebook will decrease.
