Independence Health Group began in 1938 as the Associated Hospital Service of Philadelphia. Since then, the Philadelphia-based insurer has become one of these 38 independent Blue Cross Blue Shield licensees covers the specific counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.
The insurer’s IBX app lets members check the status of referrals and claims, view health history and medications, and keeps track of medications for all members on the plan.
The company also has a 5,000-sq.ft. facility where it hosts its Human-Centered Innovation program, designed to sparks creativity and innovation in the areas of health and wellness.
The company made news in 2016 when it became the first major insurer to cover whole genome sequencing for various cancers.
