There are a few ways to buy ADA in Australia. The important thing is to try and avoid international conversion fees, credit card fees, and minimise exchange and transfer fees which can cost you ADA or AUD.
Yes, all those fees really add up and we want to be avoiding them.
Please remember that speculating in cryptocurrencies is risky. None of the information here is considered as advice on investment and you should always do your own research.

Buy ADA in Australia with Crypto.com
Crypto.com has to be our favourite exchange to purchase ADA. It is one of the few exchanges that has an Australian Financial Services License to operate in Australia legally.
Use my referral link https://crypto.com/app/ex0wm7nl50 to sign up for Crypto.com and we both get $25 USD 🙂
The credit card fee is high (3%) when buying cryptocurrencies directly but the fact that they accept Australian dollars (AUD) is a big plus. It means there is no international conversion fee from AUD to USD which you see on other exchanges based overseas.
KYC Process
All exchanges have a Know Your Customer (KYC) process where you need to verify your identity with the exchange. This is to comply with various regulatory laws and anti-money laundering laws. You will need to upload identification in the form of an identification card, passport and utility bill with your address on it.
Depositing Funds
Crypto.com also allows for PayID transfers which is a near-instant transfer from your bank account to their bank account. My bank PayID transfers take less than 30 minutes to have my account funded and exchanging fiat for crypto.
Other methods include credit card which incurs a 3% processing fee but allows you to buy ADA or other cryptocurrencies directly. BPAY deposits are also available but take 3-5 days to clear and will be seen in your fiat wallet balance.
Debit Card and Rewards
One of the great features of Crypto.com is the rewards credit card which pays you a percentage rebate on all your card spending in the form of CRO, which is their own cryptocurrency. This can be exchanged at any time for other cryptocurrencies or back to your fiat currency.
Transferring from Crypto.com to Your Daedalus or Yoroi wallet
You won't be able to delegate and stake your ADA from the Crypto exchange but you can easily transfer it to your own wallet.
Click on your ADA balance in the app, and click TRANSFER and then WITHDRAW. This will start the process where you can designate the receiving address in an EXTERNAL WALLET.
There is a small process where you will have to whitelist and confirm that you want to send funds to an external wallet, but once you have this set up, you can use it again in the future.
If this is your first time transferring from an exchange, it is a good idea to do a test transfer with a small amount of ADA to ensure you have got the process correct. Please note that there is a 2 ADA transfer fee from the exchange to a wallet.
Buy ADA with CoinSpot
My second choice is with CoinSpot. I've been using their services to buy and sell since the made rush of 2017. You can use my referral link: https://www.coinspot.com.au/join/REFCDWHMA and we both get $10 of BTC. With today's current price isn't much at all.
CoinSpot is very fast and easy to use.
Similarly to Crypto.com, you will have to go through a verification process to prove you are who you claim to be in order to comply with money laundering laws.
CoinSpot offers multiple deposit methods including:
- POLi
- BPAY
- Cash Deposit
- Direct Deposit
- PayID
My preference is to use PayID as it allows for instant deposits once you have done it once.
Simply use the PayID email deposit@coinspot.com.au, and add 413216397 as the description/comment in the transfer to get instant deposits.
Once you have funds on your wallet, simply go to the dashboard and click Buy Cardano.
Select how much you want to buy and your order will be processed.
From here, you can go to your Cardano wallet on CoinSpot and start a transfer to your Yoroi or Daedalus wallet for delegating and staking.
You won't be able to delegate your ADA from CoinSpot. You need to move it off the exchange to be able to stake and earn rewards.
Follow our tutorials on how to set up a wallet on Daedalus and Yoroi to start delegating.
